Fill out the form to get started
Walk into most gyms and you’ll see one of two extremes:
Option 1: A massive group class with 30+ people crammed into a room, music blasting, everyone doing the same workout regardless of ability. The instructor is shouting from the front, but they can’t possibly watch everyone. You’re on your own.
Option 2: One-on-one personal training. You get all the attention, all the coaching, and all the customization—but you’re also paying $100+ per session, and you’re missing the energy and accountability that comes from training with others.
At Basecamp Fitco, we don’t do either.
Every session is capped at 8 people. Not 10. Not 12. Not “as many as we can fit.” Eight.
That’s not arbitrary. It’s intentional. And it’s the difference between getting lost in the crowd and getting the coaching you actually need to make progress.
Why Most Group Classes Leave You Behind
Big group classes can be fun. The energy is high, the music is loud, and you leave feeling like you worked hard.
But here’s what you’re not getting:
- No one’s watching your form. With 30+ people in the room, the instructor is just trying to keep the class moving. They’re not correcting your squat depth, your hip hinge, or your shoulder position.
- No customization. Everyone does the same workout, regardless of experience, injury history, or fitness level. If you can’t do a movement safely, you’re left to figure it out on your own.
- No accountability. In a sea of faces, it’s easy to hide in the back, go through the motions, and leave without anyone noticing you were there.
One of our members came to us from a traditional CrossFit box. After a difficult postpartum recovery with lengthy complications, she was anxious to return to the functional training she loved. But her life—and her body—had changed.
She needed training to look different this time.
Here’s what she told us:
“The small class format allows coaches to focus on you. Workouts are adapted to meet you where you are at. I always feel comfortable with my movements and even the big lifts knowing that coaches are looking out for my form and safety. Coming from a traditional box, the biggest surprise for me was the realization that progress and results didn’t have to equal so much pain.”
That’s the power of small groups. Progress without pain. Results with support. Training that meets you where you are.
Why We Cap Every Session at 8
At Basecamp Fitco, we cap every session at 8 people. Here’s what that actually means for you:
1. Your Coach Can Actually Watch You
With 8 or fewer athletes in the room, your coach can see everyone. They can watch your movement, correct your form in real time, and adjust your workout on the fly if something doesn’t feel right.
You’re not just another body in the room. You’re an athlete with a name, a history, and a plan—and your coach knows all three.
Our postpartum member said it best: “You’ve made too many small tweaks to count. Overall, I’m lifting with better form.”
Those tweaks? They happen because the group is small enough for us to see them. In a class of 30, those compensations go unnoticed—until they become injuries.
2. You Get the Energy of a Group, the Attention of Personal Training
Small group training is the best of both worlds.
You get the accountability and camaraderie of training with others—people who show up with you, push you, and celebrate your wins. But you also get the personalized coaching and safety of one-on-one training.
It’s not just cheaper than personal training (though it is). It’s better. Because you’re not training alone—you’re training with a crew that’s working just as hard as you are.
3. You Train Safer (and Smarter)
Smaller groups mean your coach can:
- Spot movement compensations before they become injuries
- Scale workouts to match your ability today (not just your ability in general)
- Push you when you need it and pull back when you don’t
- Create a training environment where everyone feels safe to ask questions, try new things, and make mistakes
Safety isn’t about going lighter or easier. It’s about moving well, progressing intentionally, and building strength that lasts.
And that only happens when someone’s actually watching.
What the Vibe Actually Feels Like
Here’s how our members describe training in a group of 8:
“Supportive and fun.”
“I think everyone knows everyone else’s names at this gym! It’s fun to watch others’ growth and progress and cheer each other on. It’s nice to know that others are going to be asking where you are if you don’t show up for class—built-in accountability!”
That’s what happens when the group is small enough to actually know each other. You’re not just training alongside strangers. You’re part of a crew that shows up together, pushes together, and celebrates together.
And when someone asks, “What would you tell someone who’s thinking about trying Basecamp but is nervous about group training?”
The answer is simple:
“No one is judging you—everyone is cheering for you. The best time to plant a tree was yesterday. The second best time to plant a tree is today.”
What Happens in a Session of 8
Let’s walk through what a typical session at Basecamp Fitco actually looks like.
Before the Session Starts
Your coach knows who’s coming. They’ve reviewed your training history, your recent sessions, and any notes about how you’ve been feeling. If you mentioned your shoulder was tight last week, they’ve already planned modifications.
During the Warm-Up
Everyone moves together, but your coach is watching. They’re cueing you individually—”keep your ribs down,” “push through your heels,” “squeeze at the top.” They’re not shouting generic instructions to the room. They’re coaching you.
During the Workout
You’re working hard. So is everyone else. But your coach is moving around the room, checking in, adjusting loads, correcting form. If something doesn’t feel right, they catch it—and they fix it.
You’re not left guessing if you’re doing it right. You know you are. Because someone’s watching your back.
After the Session
Your coach checks in. “How’d that feel?” “Anything bothering you?” “Let’s adjust next time.” You’re not just a number. You’re part of a plan.
That’s the power of eight. It’s not just a number—it’s a philosophy. Small enough to coach well. Big enough to build community.
The Bottom Line: Smaller Groups, Bigger Results
If you want to get stronger, move better, and train without getting lost in the crowd, small group training is the answer.
At Basecamp Fitco, we cap every session at 8 because we believe you deserve more than generic programming and shouted instructions. You deserve a coach who knows your name, a plan that’s built for you, and a community that shows up with you.
That’s the power of eight. And it’s the difference between training hard and training smart.
