Progress Over Perfection – What Consistency Really Looks Like

Most people think progress looks like perfect weeks, perfect workouts, and perfect motivation. But that’s not how it works in real life — and definitely not how it works here at Basecamp.

Real progress looks a lot more like Regina.

When she first came in, she signed up for three sessions a week — and she came with a long list of movements she couldn’t do. Squats, lunges, step-ups, running, box jumps, jump rope… all of them bothered her knee or hamstring.

And her No Sweat Intro was filled with:

“I can’t.”

“I won’t do that.”

“That’s off the table.”

But she still showed up.

Week after week.

Not perfectly. Not pain-free. Just consistently.

When Consistency Beats Perfection

The moment I knew things had shifted was subtle — but powerful.

Her non-negotiables started becoming her normal. The things she swore she’d never do again?

She was doing them. Running. Box jumps. Jump rope.

Not recklessly — but confidently. In control.

She even added a fourth day of training because the belief finally matched the action.

That’s what people misunderstand about progress:

It’s not about crushing perfect workouts. It’s about consistently showing up on the days you don’t feel ready.

Why Consistency Compounds

Perfection stalls growth because perfection isn’t sustainable.

Consistency compounds because it gives your body — and your mind — a chance to adapt.

Small effort, repeated often, beats big effort, done rarely.

Progress isn’t perfection —

It’s doing what you couldn’t do yesterday by moving the needle today.

Your Next Step

If you’re tired of starting over, or you’re stuck waiting to “feel ready,” now is the time to take one small action.
